Summer Weekly Classes

4-day Summer Group Camps

Group Ukulele Courses

This summer, we are holding two sessions of group ukulele courses with a total seven different ukulele groups! Join us for one or both of these sessions: the first focusing on fun jamming and skill building, the second focused on performance preparation.

The first session (held in June) has three children’s courses and one course for late teens and adults. These courses will help beginner students get familiar with the ukulele, more intermediate students polish their skills, and provide everyone a chance to jam with new friends. This session provides two beginning courses for students aged 6-8 and 8-12, an intermediate course for students aged 8-14, and a beginning adult course for students 15 and older.

The second session’s courses (held July-August) are skill based rather than aged based. Level 1 caters to the brand new student, Level 2 focuses on those who are still new but know a few chords, and Level 3 is open for those intermediate students looking to achieve pro status. These courses also teach basic to advanced uke skills, but with an added performance opportunity at the end of the four-week course.

Bluegrass Band

The Bluegrass Band is new this summer, and will have a slightly different format than our other group courses: Enrolled students will receive several pieces of music to practice on their own or with an instructor (note: the instructors who direct this band are available for private lessons). Then, every few Saturdays, students will meet with their parts already prepared and have the opportunity to play and jam alongside other students and instruments.

This is the first time we’re holding a group course for multiple instruments and we’re so excited for the result! Students of the Bluegrass Band will also have at least one performance opportunity (date TBD), and the possibility of extending the band into the fall.

Hymns Bootcamp

If you’ve been wondering what fun, yet valuable summer activity would be perfect for your piano student, the answer is absolutely our Learn to Play the Hymns Bootcamp! This is an extremely beneficial class that uses technology and a unique process of sight reading that will jumpstart your student’s music reading abilities. Through this course, your student’s confidence will grow, they gain exposure to the hymns, and their music skills are focused just in time to return to your regular piano lesson schedule in the fall.

This camp is open to all ages, including adults, but we recommend that students have at least one year of experience with piano lessons.

Music History

Curious about how music got to where it is today? This crash course on the evolution of music not only a fun history lesson, but it also shows students the influences behind the music they play and how to pick out patterns and similarities between seemingly unrelated songs. All that combined helps students have a greater respect for all genres of music and develop interest in styles of music they never considered before.

Rhythm Camp

As Ira Gershwin said, “I got rhythm… who could ask for anything more?” This foundational camp provides equal measures of education and fun. The education: Students learn to recognize and accurately play various note patterns. The fun: They get to practice playing these patterns on bucket drums. As loudly as they want.

Sight Reading and Ear Training Camp

Often, students struggle balancing these two concepts; some are confident in their note reading but struggle knowing what a song should sound like, while others can play by ear like a pro but are overwhelmed by notes on a page. This course teaches students that both the ability to read the written notes and to know what they should sound like, when used together, are essential to becoming a great musician.
